Transportation

The Greater Payson region is readily accessible by air and ground transportation. Through Phoenix, one of the major transportation hubs of the southwest, businesses enjoy low-cost shipping rates to major destinations.

Ground Transportation


Payson is located on Highway 87, locally known as the Beeline Highway, which is a major,4-lane highway connecting Payson with Phoenix 90 miles to the south. It continues northward to Flagstaff, thereby placing Payson within 90 miles of two major trans-continental interstates (I-10 in Phoenix and I-40 in Flagstaff). There is easy access to Sky Harbor International Airport, pro sports, Arizona State University, world class dining, entertainment and shopping in Phoenix. There is ready access to Flagstaff and Northern Arizona University and, in the winter, Alpine/Nordic skiing.

Highway 260 runs eastward from Payson to the top of the Mogollon Rim and the White Mountain skiing areas. It will be developed as a four-lane divided highway between Payson and the Heber, Show Low, Snowflake areas.

Overnight delivery and parcel services provided by UPS, Fed-Ex and DHL are available, as well as, courier services.

Payson Municipal Airport

The Payson Airport is on a mesa at an elevation of 5,156 ft., two miles north of the center of town. It supports approximately 30,000 operations per year on its lighted 5,500-foot asphalt runway with a gross weight rating of 12,500 pounds that can be used by private jets. Amenities include FBO, fueling, maintenance facilities, hangars, tie-downs, flight instruction, scenic flights, charter service and a restaurant. The airport features an industrial park and residential area with taxiway access to the airport.

Connections with major air carriers (both domestic and international) can be made at Sky Harbor International Airport in Phoenix, 90 miles to the south via the four-lane (Beeline) highway.
