The region’s health care needs are met by the full service and accredited Payson Regional Medical Center and a number of other medical facilities and agencies, plus physicians and others engaged in human health care.

Payson Regional Medical Center, a 66-bed facility, provides a 24-hour, full-service emergency and trauma center, ICU, full radiology and laboratory facilities, a Women’s Center, three operating suites, one C-section operating suite, an ambulatory service department and inpatient rooms. The hospital includes departments of Surgery, Obstetrics, Nursery, and Intensive Care. Support for these departments is provided by departments of Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Laboratory, Radiology, Cardiopulmonary, and Social Services.

While the hospital is equipped to handle most of the patients admitted for treatment, cases that the hospital cannot treat are transferred to specialty hospitals in the Phoenix area. Such transfers usually are made via helicopter, which is stationed at a lighted heliport on the premises.

Over 58 active local physicians and allied medical staff practice at PRMC and 103 physicians and allied staff representing most specialties enjoy staff privileges at Payson Regional Medical Center.

There are medical clinics staffed with qualified professionals in Pine/Strawberry and Tonto Basin.

There are two long-term care facilities in Payson including Rim Country Health & Retirement Community and Payson Care Center. Powell House offers assisted living.

Other health-care professionals serving the area include a number of dentists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, optometrists, chiropractors, pharmacies and ambulance service.
