Payson Regional Medical Center (PRMC) is the primary health care provider for Northern Gila County and offers a full spectrum of medical services. It is also a participant in the University of Arizona Medical Center’s Rural Telemedicine Network through the utilization of high-tech equipment that links our community to physician specialists and medical information at the University in Tucson. PRMC is a 44-bed facility providing a 24-hour, full-service emergency and trauma center, Intensive Care Unit, diagnostic imaging-inpatient/outpatient, laboratory facilities, three operating suites, one C-section operating suite, Family Birthing Center, a Women’s Center, an ambulatory service department and inpatient rooms. The hospital provides numerous services (cancer, cardiac, respiratory, emergency, labor and delivery, surgery, rehabilitation, etc.) relying on the readily available assistance of staff in 26 medical specialties.

Approximately 63 local physicians and allied medical staffs practice at Payson Regional Medical Center and 111 physicians and allied staffs, representing numerous medical specialties, enjoy staff privileges at PRMC. While the hospital is equipped to treat the vast majority of admitted patients, some cases require the services of specialty hospitals in the Phoenix area. For those situations, emergency transfers can be made via a dedicated helicopter, which is stationed at the lighted helipad on the premises.
Southwest Behavioral Health Services provide general mental health counseling (individual and group) on an outpatient basis for a variety of behavioral health problems experienced by children, adults and families. Substance abuse programs, which focus on outpatient care for alcohol and drug abuse, are also provided utilizing individual, group and family therapy.
The Payson region recently benefited from the establishment of the new DaVita Rim Country Dialysis Center, which resulted from the aggressive three-year fundraising effort of Mogollon Health Alliance. The Center can accomodate up to 36 patients, and given the recent demand, there are already plans for expansion. (The Center can be contacted at 928-474-5000.)
There are a number of other medical facilities, staffed by qualified professionals, providing excellent health care in the surrounding area, including the communities of Pine/Strawberry and Tonto Basin. Payson also has two long-term care facilities, the Rim Country Health & Retirement Community and Payson Care Center, while the Powell House is a facility that offers licensed, assisted living.
