UtilitiesPowerArizona Public Service Company has a capacity of 40,000 kilowatts and provides 21,000-volt electric distribution to Payson from its Tonto substation. The substation has recorded a peak demand of 35,500 kilowatts, with a normal operation of approximately 18,500 kilowatts. WaterThe Town of Payson water department works to ensure an adequate supply of quality water to Payson residents and businesses. Payson obtains all its water supply via wells accessing groundwater stored in a series of complex and random cracks and fractures in the granite rock beneath the town. The only substance that is added to the water is a small amount of chlorine to disinfect the water and prevent bacterial growth. To ensure that the water is microbiologically safe, the Town collects samples throughout the system at least monthly.
The Payson Water Department has a production capacity of 2.44 million gallons a
day and a water storage capacity of 3.6 million gallons. The town owns additional
wells, not now in service, capable of producing another 4.45 million gallons a day.
Average daily water use throughout Payson is approximately 900,000 gallons. Wastewater
