Power

Arizona Public Service Company has a capacity of 40,000 kilowatts and provides 21,000-volt electric distribution to Payson from its Tonto substation. The substation has recorded a peak demand of 35,500 kilowatts, with a normal operation of approximately 18,500 kilowatts.

Water

The Town of Payson water department works to ensure an adequate supply of quality water to Payson residents and businesses. Payson obtains all its water supply via wells accessing groundwater stored in a series of complex and random cracks and fractures in the granite rock beneath the town. The only substance that is added to the water is a small amount of chlorine to disinfect the water and prevent bacterial growth. To ensure that the water is microbiologically safe, the Town collects samples throughout the system at least monthly.

The Payson Water Department has a production capacity of 2.44 million gallons a day and a water storage capacity of 3.6 million gallons. The town owns additional wells, not now in service, capable of producing another 4.45 million gallons a day. Average daily water use throughout Payson is approximately 900,000 gallons.

Wastewater

Northern Gila County Sanitary District provides wastewater treatment for Payson and much of the surrounding area. The District’s $5.7 million state-of-the-art treatment facility has a capacity of more than 1.7 million gallons a day. Current flows are about 800,000 gallons daily, or 50% of capacity. The treatment plant is designed for a third treatment module, increasing the capacity to 2.5 million gallons a day.

This facility recently won the “Plant of the year Award” for the State of Arizona, the first ever presented in the state.

The District’s effluent is of such high quality it is used for a variety of irrigation projects, ground water recharge, including the Green Valley Lake project.

Telecommunications

The Payson region offers a variety of high-tech services including Internet, cable modem, fiber optics and other fixed and mobile broadband and communications services. The region has several Internet Service Providers with local wireless broadband Internet access and cable modem service. Broadband services for data, voice and video as well as some fiber optic telecommunication technologies are also available in the area.

A variety of analog and digital television services are offered via cable TV and satellite. A variety of digital cell phone, paging and radio services are also offered in Rim Country.

Gas

Propane is delivered throughout the Payson community through a metered underground systems and other areas with leased tanks and metered tank service.
