Among the diverse initiatives of NGCEDC are recruiting new business; retaining, expanding or relocating existing business; encouraging local tourism and recreation; fostering business and community relations; and removing barriers to business success.

Economy – The local economy (only 35 years since incorporation) is primarily tourism, retirement and construction industries, with a growing emphasis on manufacturing and service firms. The area is particularly open to light industry and high-tech operations that are compatible with the community’s commitment to quality of life.

Location – Payson is located on a major, four-lane highway (Highway 87) and is within 90 miles of two major trans-continental interstates (I-10 in Phoenix and I-40 in Flagstaff). With its proximity to Phoenix (a major hub) and its central southwestern location, it is ideally situated to serve the estimated 55-million population living in the Southwest.

Labor Force – A recent NGCEDC study of the Payson Region’s labor force indicates that the potential labor force (ages 18-64) is greater than 15,800. The study provides demographic data as to individual income, benefits, occupations, experience, education, etc. of those who are employed and the desired income, benefits, working conditions, etc. of those willing to accept new or different employment. HousingHousing includes everything from mobile homes, apartments, condos, townhomes and single-family dwellings to custom, luxury homes offering expansive Rim Country views and golf course living.

Property Availability - A variety of commercial buildings and land (raw and improved) exist for new or relocated business. An industrial park exists adjacent to Payson’s Municipal Airport and there are newly constructed professional plazas and storage facilities ready for occupancy.

Climate – Payson is located in the heart of Arizona at 5,000 feet and has a climate with four mild seasons. Temperatures are typically 15 to 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix to the southwest.

Infrastructure – The entire infrastructure is in place from an award-winning treatment system, power, water, propane, modern telecommunications and good roads and highways.

Attractions/Activities – Mountain lakes (7), trout streams (4), hiking trails (new Payson Area Trails System) and campsites exist within minutes of Payson. There are limitless outdoor opportunities from hiking and fishing to camping, hunting, biking, horseback riding, X-country skiing and snow-playing. The Mazatzal Casino, Tonto National Forest, Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, Shoo-Fly Indian Archeological Site, Rim Country Museum, Zane Grey Cabin, and Fossil Creek (Llama) Ranch are only a few of the many local attractions. The New Tourism Website provides more in-depth coverage online and the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce can answer your questions in-person.
